We have just got to know that ace Badminton player, Saina Nehwal, a source of pride for the nation, has bought home a Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+. The performance-focussed SUV has an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.71 crore. A social media post that we have come across shows the sportsperson unveiling her brand new acquisition at what seems to be a dealership.

Mercedes AMG GLE 53
A performance version of the Mercedes GLE, the AMG GLE 53 Coupe SUV looks hotter than the donor car with a handful of AMG-specific bits. These include the trademark Panamericana grille, quad exhausts, bespoke alloy wheels, and plush sports seats with Alcantara leather upholstery. Nehwal has chosen a sleek black finish, which adds a touch of menace to her vehicle.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 packs a potent 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine. The motor outputs 603 bhp and an impressive 850 Nm of peak torque. The motor works in tandem with a 9-speed AMG SpeedShift automatic transmission. The powerhouse even integrates a 48-volt mild-hybrid system known as EQ Boost. This innovative system contributes an additional power surge of 21 bhp and 250 Nm, thereby enhancing both initial acceleration and overall efficiency. With these formidable specs, the AMG GLE 53 can achieve sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 280 kmph. I feel that Saina Nehwal’s choice of this dynamic SUV undoubtedly reflects her appreciation for performance and style.

It’s apparent that Saina Nehwal has a penchant for coupe SUVs. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 isn’t her first such high-end vehicle. She has previously owned a BMW X6, the car which started the entire coupe SUV trend. In fact, Nehwal has even got a BMW 3 Series which was gifted to her by none other than cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Her regular cars have included a Maruti SX4 which was was gifted to her by the carmaker back in 2007. She was even gifted a Hyundai Creta First Anniversary Edition by Hyundai Motor India. While I’m not aware if she still owns all the above cars, it’s heartening to see an ace sportsperson having a fine taste in automobiles.
