The entry level luxury segment in India is heating up with each passing day. Every luxury car maker is working to get a share of this segment, and they are getting competitive price-wise to do just that. Mercedes-Benz just launched its entry level hatchback, the A-Class, and it goes head-to-head against the likes of entry-level luxury SUVs like the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. Audi is preparing a cheaper entry level variant of the Q3 which will be named as the Q3 Sport to appeal to a wider audience, and BMW doesn’t want to left behind. BMW has gone ahead and launched an exchange offer that brings down the price of the BMW X1 to Rs 24.99 lakhs, this makes the car a value for money proposition you just can’t refuse.
The offer is valid on the base model of the BMW X1, the sDrive 20d, normally it costs Rs 27.90 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Some BMW dealers are offering the car for Rs 24.99 lakh even without the exchange offer as well. BMW has just lost its numero uno position in the Indian luxury car segment to Audi and is quite the wounded tiger now. It is trying to bounce back with the offer and at Rs 24.99 lakhs, the BMW X1 is a steal. The discount of almost Rs 3 lakhs puts a compelling case in its favour. The company states that it is valid till 31st July 2013 but we don’t think that if you go now, the dealerships will refuse to seel you the car under that scheme.
The BMW X1 is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo diesel motor that has a maximum power of 180 BHP with the peak torque of 380 NM. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Germans (car companies) are at war against each other and now that BMW has taken the first mover advantage, it might just be on the road to restore the recently lost glory.
