The 4th generation of the Suzuki Swift recently made its debut at the Japan Mobility Show. Visually, it retains the signature Swift design, whilst boasting a more upmarket interior and some significant updates under the hood. While the new aesthetics are more evolutionary than revolutionary, what might actually make a huge difference is the strong-hybrid power plant that promises upto 35 kmpl of mileage. The next-gen 2024 Maruti Swift is likely to launch in India in the first-quarter of next year. In line with this expectation, the first few test mules of have been seen undergoing road tests.

2024 Maruti Swift Makes Spotted Night Time Testing
IN a recent development, multiple test mules of the next-gen Swift were seen undergoing road tests on a highway. Interestingly, they were accompanied by a current-gem model, which could have been along for benchmarking purposes. In spite of all that camouflage, these test vehicles showcase the changes in the design of the new Swift. Up front, the hatchback now gets a clamshell bonnet for a flatter appearance. Even the grille is new , a revamped grille with a more aggressive stance, and a sportier bumper.
Overall, though, the new Swift’s design is notably reminiscent of the current model. Although there have been several subtle updates, like the ones mentioned above, the overall appearance remains quite consistent. One noteworthy change seen on the show car is the inclusion of a front camera and radar. This is a clear hint at the inclusion of the ADAS suite. It also means that the hatchback would get a 360-degree camera. What we don’t know at the moment is if all this tech will make it to the India-spec model. That said, the Swift will become the first car in its category to provide ADAS if the feature makes it to us. Quite unsurprisingly, the side and rear profiles of the vehicle mostly preserve the existing silhouette.

Maruti Suzuki is moving away from its renowned K Series engine, opting for the Z Series 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. While official figures are not available, the hybrid variant of this engine could potentially offer an incredible fuel efficiency of up to 35 km/l. Whether the Indian version of the Swift will adopt this engine remains uncertain. Considering India’s strong emphasis on fuel efficiency, the upcoming Swift seems poised for a competitive edge. Moreover, this new engine is expected to deliver power figures within a similar range as the current motor. If anything, it would offer better low-end grunt.
