Honda Jazz has been spotted at a Honda dealership by our friends at Car Sizzler. The car does not seem to be close to final production version, we believe the same because there were no badges, no allow wheels and no fancy stuff on the exteriors. This is probably one of the pre-production models or maybe a test unit being used for testing the car on road or for some other pre-launch test purpose. Honda Car India also showcased the new Jazz at the Auto Expo 2014, but that was a Japanese variant and the final model for India will be slightly different in terms of features and interiors compared to the car which we saw at the Auto Expo. Largely it will look similar on the outside and will look like the one we see below. 2014 Honda Jazz India launch may happen by end of 2014 or early 2015.
Honda Jazz was never among the best sellers in India due to its high price but Honda kept on promoting the car for a long time. It was launched with a sky high price tag which was in the ball park of some of the C-Segment sedans but the same was dropped by a big margin later on. But even that could not get the sales moving and ultimately Honda had to stop selling it in the country. Now the company is readying itself up to launch the next generation Jazz in India and the same has touched down in India as well.
Honda has already stated that 2014 Honda Jazz India launch is planned in the first quarter of 2015. We believe Honda wants to extensively test the car in India before it gets launched and will be aiming for a high level of localisation so as to keep the prices down. The car was caught at a dealership alongside other Honda cars. The car came devoid of any variant name and had black tinting on the glasses.
The 2014 Jazz is a big up from the outgoing version and is an all new car. It will come with the choice of a petrol and a diesel motor. The petrol unit will be a 1.2 litre i-VTEC motor that powers the current generation Jazz and it has a maximum power output of 88 PS and a peak torque of 109 NM on offer. Joining it will be a 1.5 litre diesel motor that powers the Amaze and City. It is capable of producing 100 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 200 NM.
Both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the petrol unit might get a 4/5- Speed automatic transmission as well. Honda will be playing on the fuel efficiency and spaciousness of the car alongside its good drive quality. Early 2015 is when the likes of the facelifted Hyundai i20, next generation Skoda Fabia and the facelifted Swift will be going on sale in India so the Jazz will surely have its work cut out. Honda will launch the 2014 Honda Jazz (Fit) in Japan today. The Honda Jazz/Fit will be offered in four variants: 13G, 15X, RS and a Hybrid.
The 13G will be powered by a 1.3-litre, VTEC petrol engine that Honda claims will offer a fuel-efficiency of 26 KMPL (Japan test cycle). The 15X and RS variants will be powered by a 1.5-litre VTEC engine that will have about 140 BHP, a 20% bump over the previous generation of the same engine.
Finally, the star of the lot, the Hybrid will be powered a different variant of the 1.5-litre engine that powers the RS/15X variants. This engine coupled to an electric motor and an intelligent hybrid system that can automatically switch between the power sources, Honda claims that the Jazz/Fit Hybrid will deliver a fuel efficiency of 36.4 KMPL!
The 2014 Jazz/Fit gets a new platform which is lighter for more fuel efficiency, it is also designed for more interior space than before but is also tuned for better handling. The body and underbody have been designed for reduced drag.
Styling on the new Jazz/Fit follows Honda’s new ‘Exciting H Design’ philosophy which will be introduced on all upcoming Honda cars worldwide. The new design philosophy is most noticeable on the new Jazz/Fit if you look at it’s grille. The one-piece grille with the prominent ‘H’ logo and a wing like section extending on both sides of it is the centre-piece of Honda’s new design philosophy, the company calls it ‘High Tech.’. Other features on the outside include more surface detailing, which Honda calls ‘High Touch’ and proportional styling to give their cars a athletic form which is called ‘High Tension’.

The new design philosophy will extend to the interiors too, Honda will concentrate on better user interface, a sporty and personalised cockpit design and experiment with new materials to make the interiors more inviting for customers.

Honda has revealed the 2014 Honda Fit (the 2014 Honda Jazz for us) for the Japanese market. The car that would eventually come to India is expected to look similar, if not a complete copy of this design.
The new Jazz still has the like it or hate it design, we think it has lost the mature design the last car featured. The simple cab-forward design has given way to a fussy design whether you look at from the front, side or at the rear. The grille is a mix of black shiny plastic, a chrome strip running below it and a mesh behind it, the headlamp unit has got a bit smaller and a bit ‘bolder’, the grille gets bolder with some version getting LED day light running lamps.
Come to the side and the simple panels on the last car have been dumped, the new Jazz gets a deepline, starting a bit after the front wheel arch, running below the door handles, going on to meet the tail-lamps. There is also an upward kink line line running along the bottom of the side. The alloy wheel design look pretty good.
We think Honda messed up the rear of the car, but we will not complain because it might work for some people. The bumper reflects the edgy styling at the front, there are lot of surface tension design elements at the back, a chrome strip runs below the rear-windshield, and two reflectors run along the sides of the windshield too. The tail-lamps are heavily contoured, the rear-spoiler looks good.
On the inside, the biggest news that there is a increase in space. The wheelbase of the car has been increased by about 50mm, but the length, width and height of the new Jazz remain almost similar to the car it replaces.The older car was pretty good, in fact it was exceptional, in terms of usable space on the inside, so we can presume that the 2014 Honda Jazz would give many small sedans a run for their money. The design on the inside of the 2014 Honda Jazz is a huge departure than that found on the old car, gone are the round chunky A/C dials placed high up the dashboard, a rectangular panel replaces these buttons and is placed below a huge multimedia screen. The roundish theme on the old car has been replaced a more angular design, the air-vents are now rectangular, we are not sure we like it much. The Three spoke steering wheel is almost similar to the one found on the old car, except for the shape of the media control buttons. The instrument cluster design has been changed, the three pods have been replaced by a single pod flanked by digital screens.
Honda has revealed the engine options for the car revealed for Japan, we expect the Indian variant to get the previous car’s 1.2 litre, 88 BHP, 110 Nm engine which may be mated to a new six-speed manual or a CVT transmission. It will also be fitted with the 1.5 litre, 100 BHP, 200 Nm diesel motor doing duty on the Amaze sedan. The car’s handling has been bench-marked against the Volkswagen Polo, and journalists who have had access to the new car sya tht it handles much better than the previous car.
Expect the 2014 Honda Jazz to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2014, and it should be priced somewhere about the Rs. 6 Lakh mark. We will keep you posted on the 2014 Honda Jazz.

The next gen Jazz will be 60mm longer than the last generation and will feature a stretched wheelbase as well to ensure a sedan like legroom for the passengers. The 2014 Honda Jazz is built on an all new platform which will form the basis of the next generation City sedan and a Jazz based Compact MUV as well.
The car will also address the issue of the lack of diesel motor in the Jazz and the next gen car will come with a 1.5 litre i-DTEC motor that powers the Amaze sedan in India. The petrol motor will be the same 1.2 litre i-VTEC motor that powered the last generation Jazz. The car will receive a big design overhaul from the last generation Jazz and will feature aggressive headlamps with an all new grille and wider air dams.
The rear of the car features an all new tail lamp cluster and the side profile of the car also shows a dash of aggressiveness. The car will be produced with high levels of localisation in India to keep a tab on the pricing and will rival the likes of the Swift and i20. The Jazz has always been known as being a driver’s car and the next generation of the car is expected to find a lot of takers if priced aggressively.
