The former US President and billionaire businessman Donald Trump has some harsh criticism for electric cars. Trump has always been a prominent personality when it comes to opposing eco-friendly mobility. He raises some interesting concerns. However, there are question marks on his stance on EVs because of his involvement with industries which supply ICE cars with components and crude oil. That is why it is entirely possible that his opinion might well be biased. In any case, let us ponder over the points he puts forward in his argument.

Donald Trump on Electric Cars
This post comes from thebusinesspalace on Instagram. It captures a part of the interview of the former American President. Firstly, he says that EVs will crush the suppliers of the automobile industry. He thinks that it is already happening. Secondly, he claims that electric cars would kill more than half of US auto jobs. In fact, he believes that the repercussions would be wide and it has already started to happen. No one could imagine the intensity of the decimation that EVs would cause, he adds. He ends up calling electric cars a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Issues with EVs
Furthermore, he lists out the top problems with the EVs. We must admit these issues are common across the board at the moment. In fact, these are the reasons preventing mass adoption. This includes range anxiety as the real-world range of most EVs is not all that high. On top of that, the charging time is high too (if you are not charging at public DC fast charging stations), and the range could even get lower during the winter, the materials are made in China and it takes a lot of energy to produce their batteries. This challenges the very existence of EVs which is premised upon the fact that they are environmentally less damaging than traditional internal combustion engine cars.

What We Think
This is quite a peculiar case. On one hand, we could question the motivation of Donald Trump for having this opinion. At the end of the day, he is a businessman who wants to keep the status quo. On the other hand, electric mobility will disrupt a lot of established players in the automobile industry. This also includes OEM companies and suppliers. And then there are the issues associated with electric cars. All in all, we can agree that it will take a rather long time before EVs become the norm.
