Mercedes Benz, the luxury car maker that once ruled the luxury car segment is aiming to take the numero uno position in the luxury car segment in future. The company has already showcased the GLA concept which is the mini SUV from the company to rival the likes of the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, both of which have been a run away success for the German compatriots of Mercedes.
The production spec GLA has already hit the roads for testing and a global launch will most probably happen around September during the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Today we have for you the spyshots of a highly camouflaged GLA undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Europe. We can get a basic idea of how the car will look during the launch, even though it is very well camouflaged. At the first glance, you’ll notice that it looks like the big brother of the A-Class. It is based on the MFA (Mercedes Front-Wheel Drive Architecture) platform which is the same platform which underpins the A-Class and the B-Class. The car has a coupe like rear and a pretty muscular front end. It will come with a decent ground clearance and it is in the looks department that it could supersede all other entry level SUVs.
The car is expected to go on sale in mid-2014 and that is when Mercedes Benz will probably be embarking on its journey to the pinnacle. The company has been facing tough competition in the luxury car market for a long while but it has some real good products up its sleeve to make a good comeback.
