After the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia, the new Hyundai Verna has become the third C-segment sedan to bag 5-star score at Global NCAP
In what is possibly the last round of Global NCAP crash tests conducted under the Safer Cars for India program, the new Hyundai Verna has achieved an impressive full 5-star safety rating. This makes the Verna the first Hyundai model to receive the 5-star rating from Global NCAP. The vehicle tested was the Indian version produced and sold in India. It featured essential standard safety features such as 6 airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), rear ISOFIX mounts, and seatbelt reminders.

New Hyundai Verna NCAP Score in Adult Occupant Crash Test
The Hyundai Verna has achieved 28.18 out of a possible 34 points in the adult occupant crash test. However, it’s worth noting that the test assessed the bodyshell as unstable and incapable of withstanding further loadings. In the frontal impact test, the Verna provided good protection for both the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. However, the driver’s chest protection was rated as marginal, while passenger chest protection received a good rating. Additionally, the test found that the protection for the driver’s and passenger’s knees was marginal. This was due to the risk of impact from hazardous structures behind the fascia. The assessment also identified the footwell area as unstable.
In the side impact test, the Verna delivered good protection for the head, pelvis, and abdomen, but chest protection was considered adequate. In the side pole impact test, the Verna received an ‘OK’ rating, indicating good protection for the head and pelvis, marginal protection for the chest, and adequate protection for the abdomen. The Hyundai Verna underwent comprehensive testing, including ESC (Electronic Stability Control) assessment, which met Global NCAP’s requirements and ensured compliance with UN 127 and GTR9 pedestrian protection standards.

Child Occupant Crash Test
In the child occupant crash test rating, the Verna received a score of 42 out of 49 potential points. This leads to a perfect 12 out of 12 points for the CRS (Child Restraint System) installation. It even results in a full 24 points in the dynamic score. Global NCAP conducted these tests using dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child, both positioned in rear-facing seats secured with i-size anchorages and a support leg. This setup effectively prevented head exposure during a frontal crash and provided complete side impact protection. Notably, the Verna features 3-point seatbelts in all seating positions as a standard safety measure. However, it lacks the capability to deactivate the front passenger airbag when a rearward-facing CRS is installed.
With this, the new Hyundai Verna joins the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus in the list of midsize sedans to have got a full 5-star safety rating in the updated Global NCAP crash tests.
