Good news for Toyota car buyers! Company’s new plant set to reduce waiting periods through increased production of vehicles
Toyota India intends to construct a new manufacturing facility in India. This will be its first capacity expansion in over a decade, bolstered by its partnership with Suzuki Motor. The plant is projected to have an initial capacity of 80,000-120,000 vehicles per year. This can be ramped up to 200,000 in the future, sources with direct knowledge of the plans have revealed. If realized, this initial capacity would represent a 30% increase in Toyota’s existing production capacity. Currently, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese car giant can produce 400,000 units annually.

New Production Plant to Help Toyota Increase Production Capacity to 500,000 units Anually
Sources close to the development have refrained from providing additional information. Moreover, they have chosen to remain anonymous since Toyota has yet to officially announce these expansion plans. In line with this, a spokesperson for the carmaker has refrained from commenting on the matter. The surge in Toyota cars sale in India can be attributed to a global partnership with Suzuki, in which both Japanese automakers utilize certain vehicles initially created by their partner, modifying and marketing them under their respective brands to bolster their product offerings.
Vehicles originally manufactured by Maruti Suzuki, such as the Baleno-based Glanza hatchback and Grand Vitara-based Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV, currently contribute to 40% of Toyota’s sales in India. As part of their collaborative venture, approximately two-thirds of Toyota’s existing production capacity is utilized by Maruti Suzuki to produce vehicles for both companies. Earlier in September, Toyota expressed its anticipation of achieving record-breaking domestic sales in 2023. According to two insider sources, the Japanese automaker is now striving to increase its production capacity to 500,000 vehicles annually by the end of the decade. This expansion includes the vehicle models that it will provide to Suzuki as part of their partnership.

Booking for Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion MPV Suspended to Curb Burgeoning Waiting Period
Recently, Toyota suspended bookings of the CNG variants of the Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion MPV. This has been done in response to overwhelming demand leading to waiting period extending to more than 9 months. An official statement from the carmaker read,“We launched the all-new Toyota Rumion in August this year and have received an overwhelming response from our customers who have been waiting for a Toyota vehicle in the B-MPV segment. We are heartened to see the increasing inflow of enquiries and healthy bookings for the all-new Toyota Rumion. The demand has surpassed our expectations, resulting in a long delivery time across variants, especially for the CNG option. This has necessitated us to temporarily halt bookings of the CNG option only to avoid customer inconvenience due to a longer waiting period. However, we continue to accept bookings for the petrol variants of the Toyota Rumion.”
