A viral video clip shows the driver of the Mahindra XUV700 in the back seat as the SUV drives itself. This is yet another addition to the undesirable list of people misusing the ADAS feature of a car. XUV700 is the flagship SUV from the Indian auto giant. There are myriad tech, convenience, safety and connectivity features to pamper the occupants. In fact, some features are so opulent that you would find it in cars only a segment above. But that also means that people get more chances to misuse some of these amenities. This is the latest example of that.

Driver in Back Seat of a Moving XUV700
This video comes from xtreammotivators219 on YouTube. The visuals capture a rather disturbing sight. The XUV700 driver is making videos while sitting in the second row of the vehicle. There is no one in either the driver’s seat or the co-driver’s seat. He uses the ADAS function with an adaptive cruise control feature which accelerates and decelerates the vehicle as per the traffic conditions. This active safety feature is also capable of steering the car if there are proper lane markings on the highway. It is designed to intervene in emergency cases where the driver is not able to react quickly enough.

What We Think
Every year, we sadly witness a significant loss of lives due to road accidents, with many occurring because of inattentiveness and disregard for traffic regulations. The recent incident serves as a critical reminder of this fact. We want to emphasize to our readers the critical importance of consistently adhering to road rules. By doing so, we can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents. It’s high time we take this responsibility seriously. Additionally, it’s crucial to remember that ADAS features are designed to assist the driver, not replace them. If you observe someone engaging in unsafe road behaviour, please report it to the authorities so that appropriate action can be taken.
