24-Year-Old Paraded on Sindhu Bhavan Road
The above-mentioned incident took place on July 5th. The police squad of DCP Zone-7 manhandled Junaid Mirza for reckless driving and performing stunts on public roads. The 24-year-old was also paraded on Sindhu Bhavan Road. He was given a placard that read, “Gaadi mere baap ki hai, par road nahi” (translates to ‘The car belongs to my father, but not the road’). Following this incident, Junaid Mirza (represented by his lawyer Siddharth Kheshkani) approached the Gujarat High Court. He alleged that the police publicly humiliated him.
Now, a division bench of the Gujarat High Court has issued a contempt notice to police personnel. The bench has asked Sarkhej Police Inspector V. J. Chavda, PSI DP Solanki, Satellite PSI Dineshsinh Rathod, and Constable Irfan Sheikh to explain why action under the Contempt of Court Act should not be taken against them. DCP Bhagirathsinh Jadeja was also named in the initial complaint. As per Junaid Mirza’s lawyer, the police actions violated Supreme Court directions.
Accused of Performing Stunts with Mercedes SUV
While Junaid Mirza was accused of performing stunts with his Mercedes-Benz SUV, there is more to the story. The initial stunts are said to have been performed in 2021. However, the video went viral in February this year. It shows a group of young people engaging in stunts. It is to be noted that the first FIR was filed based on this video and Mirza was a witness in the charge sheet. Junaid Mirza’s lawyer claims that the police targeted his client as his father refused to pay a bribe to the DCP’s office. As they did not pay Rs 10 lakh for a firearm license, Mr Mirza was framed in this case and publicly humiliated.
