General Motors may not be very popular in India but back on its home turf, the American car make has quite the fan following because of the iconic cars like the Chevy Camaro that the company has put forward. But changing times call for changing measures. The world today has moved on to the school of thought which aims at getting the maximum fuel efficiency out of its cars and to cater to those needs, GM has quite the plans.
General Motors Three Cylinder Ecotec Engines are the ones which can deliver a lot of fuel efficiency and offer a lot of value for money. And United States will be playing host to a lot of 3 cylinder cars in future and seeing India’s affinity for fuel efficient engines, a lot of them will be making their way to Indian markets well. Chevrolet has high hopes from Ecotec family of engines globally and these Ecotec motors would be available in over 2 million vehicles every year by 2020.
The 3 cylinder Ecotec engine will be launched with the 2015 Chevrolet Volt in its next generation and the 3 cylinder engine will be mated to a 8 speed automatic gearbox. Companies these days try to extract the maximum power out of smaller engines by use of technology. The same engine will be made available in 2016 iteration of the Cadillac ELR. A point worth mentioning is that these both are plug-in hybrids and India does not receive those cars very well.
Times have changed and not just GM, but Ford has also jumped on the wagon of smaller displacement more power wagon. Ford has the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine which develops a power of 120bhp. Both these brands have always been known for the iconic muscle cars that they bring to the table but now that the world is more open to the idea of FE and hybrids, EcoBoost and Ecotec engines will surely be the future of engines.
