With the increase in automobile ownership in India and the rise of social media, there has been an increase in careless stunts on Indian roads. This is a dangerous trend which puts lives in danger. Recently, an on-duty Uttar Pradesh cop was spotted doing stunts on his Yamaha MT15. Once the Instagram Reel went viral, he was suspended. This video highlights the lack of awareness among Indian citizens about public safety and traffic rules. It endangers human lives and harms public trust in the police force.

Found in Violation of UP Police’s Directive
As you can see in the above video, Constable Sandeep Kumar Chaubey performed stunts on a racing bike while wearing his official uniform. The stunt video is accompanied by a voiceover that essentially says, “Don’t be afraid of enemies and death, only God.” Constable Sandeep Kumar Chaubey is posted in Gorakhpur, UP. Once the Instagram Reel went viral, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dr. Gaurav Grover also started receiving complaints about the same and an investigation was conducted.
The investigation revealed that Constable Chaubey himself uploaded the stunt reel. He was found guilty of violating a directive issued by the UP Police on February 8, 2023, which strictly prohibits police personnel from sharing private photos or videos on social media. As a result, the constable was suspended due to the public breach of discipline. It is to be noted that civilians are also prohibited from displaying such risky behaviour on public roads. Such reckless behaviour can result in terrible outcomes quickly.

Not First Such Case
Performing stunts is dangerous and should be done with proper safety precautions. Additionally, it is illegal to perform any such activities on public roads. However, the situation gets worse when lawmakers indulge in such activities. Previously, Inspector Surendra Swarnkar of Dongargarh police station in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh was suspended after attending a farewell procession that involved unsafe practices and inappropriate conduct. The on-duty conduct of both police personnel is questionable and strict action is a good sign that the administration is serious about maintaining road safety.
