The compact car segment is currently the segment every company wants to be in. Be it SUVs or be it the compact sedans, every automobile maker wants to capitalize on the lucrative tax benefit on offer. Tata Motors was the first company that brought the country’s first compact sedan and Tata Motors is the company which will soon be bringing another sub-4 meter sedan in the country, the Tata Manza Compact Sedan. That would make them the only company to have 2 compact sedans in their lineup.
Financial Chronicle has reported that a Tata official has told them that the company is working on a compact car. Some say that it will be a facelifted version of the Indigo eCS but we believe that it will be a Manza CS. Tata Motors is reportedly working on face-lifting the Indigo eCS this year but the speculations also suggest that the company might just give its Club Class Manza a compact sedan version like the Dzire and the car was just launched in Nepal.
The country’s bestseller when it comes to a sedan is the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire which is indeed a compact sedan. Tata Motor is the one which first brought Indians face to face with a compact sedan and the Indigo eCS was a instant hit then. But then the competition caught up and the eCS started showing its age. So it makes sense to give the car a facelift to keep it fresh or introduce a new car altogether that is a bit contemporary to attract buyers.
Honda will soon launch their Brio based compact sedan called Honda Amaze in India and Mahindra will launch the sub-4 meter version of their Verito whose spyshots get skipped on to the interweb every now and then. So that segment is going to witness a lot of new entrants. So much so for the Club Class, what about Compact Class? It is interesting to see so many new entrants into this segment making it a really hot and happening. With excise duty on compact SUVs hiked, the compact sedans become even more desirable in terms of price competitiveness. We will keep you posted on new developments, stay tuned to Car Blog India.
