Tata Motors has been working constantly to get the sales numbers going in their favour but except the Tata Safari Storme, none of the cars in their portfolio has given them something to cheer about. But Tata has no plans of accepting defeat as of now and are working on a new small hatchback car which would sit below the Vista and rival the likes of the i10 and Wagon-R. Economic Times has reported that the company is working on an all new hatchback which has been codenamed the X0.
The car will be based on the first generation of the Indica platform and would most probably replace the Indica which has been one of the company’s most reliable old workhorses. The Tata products seem to be from stone age when compared to the ones from the Koreans, Americans and Japanese and the need for fresher products with better designing and styling has prompted the engineers back at Tata to give them an all new product.

The car is expected to com in as a youthful car and will be aimed at younger buyers. There will be a 75 percent change to the sheet metal design of the first generation of the Indica and the usage of the older platform shall allow Tata to save huge R&D costs of developing a new platform and price the car attractively. The compact hatchback will be one of the most integral launches when it makes it way to production lines in 2015.
The car would have the diesel motor as its strength and will get the 1.05 litre CRDI engine that Tata showcased at the Auto Expo 2012. The car will also get an all new 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine as an entry level variant. The Indica Vista also might just get the 1.2 litre turbo charged petrol motor to complement the 90 HP multi-jet engine that has just made its way onto the hatchback.
Indica’s brand head, Mr. Amit Sagar had stated at the launch of the Vista D90 that, “There could be new motors – a turbocharged 1.2 litre petrol engine and a 1.05 litre common rail diesel engine (presented at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo)”. The company had invested heavily in the Indica platform ever since its inception, the company will continue to use the platform. Tata Motors competes with the global automobile giants in the country and since they are planning a major overhaul, they might as well take this car to be the one which comes as a harbinger of happiness back at the Tata Motors Camp.
