How To Fill Your Car’s Windshield Washer Fluid Properly
- Open The Bonnet Of The Car
The washer fluid reservoir is located under the hood of your car. To open the hood, locate the release lever on the right side of the steering wheel, just above the pedals. Pull the lever to pop open the hood a few inches. Now, the bonnet unlocks and pop opens by a few inches. Slide your fingers under the hood and move the locking latch to the left. Lift the hood and use the small flag rod to prop it open.
- Locate The Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir
Once the hood is open, you can access the washer fluid reservoir. It is typically white or yellow in color and is usually located on the lower left side of the engine bay. You will see a windshield/water symbol on the cap. If your car has a rear wiper, there is likely a second reservoir located somewhere in the trunk. Refer to your owner’s manual for the exact location of the reservoir(s).
- Fill In The Windshield Washer Liquid
To refill the washer fluid reservoir, open the cap. In most cases, you can use plain water. However, for monsoons and winters, it is better to use anti-fog washer fluid. This will help prevent mist from forming on your windshield. Or you can put in a few drops of shampoo with water to prevent mist formation. Once you have added the washer fluid, close the cap tightly. This will prevent evaporation and keep the fluid fresh.

Please Note
Do not run your windshield wipers dry. This can damage your windshield and shorten the lifespan of your wiper blades. Wipers without water can’t dislodge dirt and debris from your windshield. This can cause scratches and etching. To protect your windshield and your wiper blades, always make sure there is enough water in the reservoir before using your wipers.
Also, the rubber blades will become worn over time and leave streaks. It is advisable to replace the wipers when you notice a noise while operating them. Ideally, wiper blades should be replaced every six months to a year. In the winter season, you can use silicone lubricant to protect blades from the cold. By following these simple tips, you can help keep your windshield clean and your wiper blades in good condition.
