The Mercedes C class got itself a mild facelift sometime back but the the launch of the new BMW 3 series was what garnered the lion’s share of attention. But the German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz is not going to sit back and watch its market share being eaten up by its compatriots BMW and Audi. Mercedes recently revealed the E-Class facelift for 2013-2014 and and has just released some studio shots of the next generation C-Class.
The C-Class has been the company’s bread and butter as it is the least priced sedan in their portfolio. Mercedes looks to overthrow the reign of the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 series with their next offering. The 2015 C-Class will be displayed at the Geneva Motor show in 2014 and from what we see, it is pretty much the car you’d want in your driveway rather than a 3-series or an A4. And if you’re wondering if it is just another facelift, you’re wrong. It will be a completely new model and will be based on the Modular Rear-wheel drive Architecture i.e. the MRA platform.
The new car will be longer than the outgoing model by 100mm and will have an increase in width of 40mm. The boot size will be a mammoth 485 litres which will overtake pretty much all the rivals. The car is going to become bigger than its outgoing model but shall become lighter. It will shed a considerable amount of weight and will weigh 1,380 Kg only. And coupled with the engine options it is going to bring, the car will be a hoot to drive around to be precise.
The engine options will be a 184BHP four-cylinder petrol, 330BHP V6 petrol and the fuel sipping 2.1 L diesel heart will be available in different power output options with power outputs varying from 120bhp to 220bhp. A petrol-electric hybrid is also in the works but we don’t have much details about it. The engines will be mated to a six speed manual transmission and a seven-speed DCT transmission, depending upon what you choose. The safety feature list includes like Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Junction Assist and Attention Assist.
As is the case with the next generation E-Class, the C-Class will be available in four body styles which will be – Saloon, Estate, Coupe and Convertible. All the models are expected to have an AMG variant for those people who have a heavy foot on the gas pedal. Well there you go, the next offering from the German car marquee. And yes, luxury cars always meant, still mean and will always mean just one thing- Mercedes Benz.
