Maruti Suzuki again hits headings as the modified version of Wagon R was caught on a latest TV commercial on YouTube. This new Maruti Wagon R facelift touches markets three years after its renovated model, the blue eyed boy, was launched. It is one of the most important member of Marutis’ extensive portfolio. It has traded around a million units till date and has played a key role in promoting ‘kei car’ concept in India.
A few changes are easily visible in the promo. The vehicle has been modified very mildly in terms of its plastic body parts. The front grille in the new version consists of a giant plank clipped in chrome, the trapezoidal air dam seems taller while the fog light enclosures seems drawn-back. After noticing such simple modifications in exteriors one can easily assume almost same interiors in the new Wagon R. Although the bottom line of Marutis’ philosophy has always been that of constant upgradation and modification of its vehicles according to changing tastes in market or the customers will be taken away by competitors leading to slowdown or failure of their products.
Some of the main competitors of this compact small car are Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, Tata Indica. Maruti do need to accompany its vehicle with a diesel engine to give better fight to its competitors.Although the car is already earning accolades in terms of its fuel efficiency, spacious insides, impressive air conditioning, and most importantly the smooth ride that it offers on Indian roads courtesy its powerful engine.
Wagon-R was the first ‘kei car’ launched by Suzuki in 1993 in Japan. The R in the name represents Radical. The Indian version of the same was launched in December, 1999 by Maruti Suzuki-the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki. The second upgraded version of this kei car was launched in 2010. All the new launched Wagon R were powered by the famous K series engine of Suzuki. This engine is known for its light weight and generates a power of 68 PS at 6200 rpm along with a torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. Another version named DUO that is Wagon Rs’ F10D engine variant and it runs on both petrol and LPG.
