Tata Nexon EV is, by far, the highest-selling electric car in India but an owner has allegedly shared a rather forgetful experience.
The experience of a Tata Nexon EV owner with her electric car has been alleged to be anything but pleasant. Nexon EV has been the highest-selling EV in the country ever since its inception. It captured the market on the back of the mad success of the ICE-powered Nexon. Tata Motors simply swapped the internal combustion engine with the electric motor and a battery, a practice fairly common among automobile companies lately. While that is a great way to test the market and commence the electrification process of the fleet, problems can crop up. Here are the details of one such case.

Tata Nexon EV Owner Experience
A certain Carmelita Fernandes took to Twitter to express her frustration and horrific experience with her Nexon EV. She wrote, “Nightmarish experience @TataMotors_Cars on my 2 trips to Pune fm BOM. 1st time battery issue (replaced by @RudraMotors). 2nd time Tata charging stns at Food Mall & Turbhe didnt work! ZConnect Support doesn’t support. Tata Toll Free 18008332233 doesn’t work. Pls take my car back!” She has attached her photos of the trip along with this tweet as well.

This is quite surprising that these major issues allegedly cropped up in the EV just on two road trips. In the first instance, the battery had to be swapped, which points toward a severe issue since batteries generally come with an 8-year warranty. But Tata Motors swapped the battery to fix the issue. For the second scenario, there were alleged problems with the ZConnect Support and the toll-free number didn’t work either. The charging stations at the Food Mall & Turbhe were non-functional. That is a huge issue since people can’t even rely on public charging stations.

Lack of Infrastructure
The major issue with adopting EVs is the fact that there isn’t enough infrastructure, to begin with. On top of that, even the charging stations that have been installed by the carmakers don’t function properly. This will, invariably, lead to range anxiety and mistrust among potential EV buyers. Despite the generous government subsidies, people are not willing to take the plunge when it comes to buying EVs as their first cars. At the moment, the EVs are strictly restricted to being the second car for city commutes. For now, that looks like the best way to use them.
