To this Mahindra responded that it has conducted a thorough investigation to find out the root cause. As per the report of this investigation, it was found that there was some tempering with the original wiring of the vehicle. That generally happens when people install aftermarket accessories from unauthorised shops. However, it is not clear in this what that accessory was. But Mahindra is citing it as the reason that led to the vehicle catching fire. This could be due to the low-quality wiring which is not as good as the ones used by OEMs.

Aftermarket Modification
We would highly recommend our readers not to get any modifications on your car from unauthorized car shops. There are chances that the mechanics and workers are not professionally trained like in authorized dealerships. As a result, they can temper with the wiring which could also leave the insurance null and void. Moreover, most car modifications in India are illegal in any case. Hence, traffic cops can challan you at any time. It is better to not do something that could land you in such a situation.
