Maruti Jimny is about to launch in our market and vloggers and car enthusiasts are getting a glimpse of the production-ready version at a few selected places.
Maruti Jimny will get the official NCAP safety rating after it is sent for the crash test but a few vloggers are already ascribing 5 stars to it after witnessing it in the flesh. Jimny is an accomplished lifestyle lightweight off-roading SUV that has eluded the Indian market for a long time. The fact that it is offered in the 3-door version abroad could be one factor. Maruti Suzuki recognized that and brought the practical 5-door version to our market that is bound to appeal to a larger audience. However, until the launch takes place, we can’t know about the pricing which could decide the fate of the Jimny in India.

Maruti Jimny Safety Rating
The video has been uploaded by Harsh VLOGS on YouTube. It captures a real-life walkaround tour of the Jimny that is parked at a NEXA showroom in Gurugram. He approaches the SUV and starts knocking and banging on the body of the SUV. Unsurprisingly, he ‘tests’ the build quality just by that parameter which is quite foolish. As a matter of fact, he even compares it with other Maruti cars and concludes that this feels more solid than them simply by hearing the thud sound that doors and bonnet make.

While Maruti might have worked on making the Jimny quite rugged and strong, we can only believe it when we see the NCAP test results. It is the competent authority that has devised appropriate testing mechanisms to test the actual strength of the components of a car. Simply knocking and banging on the body and hearing sounds is not the ideal way to detect the build quality of any car. Hence, netizens must take such vlogs with a pinch of salt and not consider these to be the actual tests proving a solid construction.

Specs
The soon-to-be-launched Jimny comes powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B petrol mill that churns out a decent 104.8 PS and 134.2 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties is a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The SUV comes with hardcore off-roading equipment including a locking differential and low-range transfer case. This system is part of Suzuki’s trademark ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 system. After the launch, the Jimny will go up against the likes of the 5-door Mahindra Thar and 5-door Jeep Gurkha both of which are also undergoing testing.
