Maruti Suzuki India has launched a Limited edition of its not-so-popular-in-India car Maruti A-Star called the A-Star Aktiv (pronounced active). Interestingly, A-Star is hugely popular in Europe where its sold as Alto but the same has failed to gain traction in terms of sales numbers in India. The car has decent exteriors, good interiors, the interior space is on the lower side though in the price segment. To spice up the things and attract the youth buyers towards the A-Star, Maruti has offered a Limited Edition model with sport kit which includes many attractive cosmetic upgrades like exterior body graphics on side, front, rear and roof. It also gets Aktiv Logo, red coloured outside rear view mirrors, red coloured spoilers, bumpers, Black film on the B-Pillars, and red coloured Fog Lampover plate which gives the A-Star a whole new personality.
On the interiors, the Aktiv special edition gets special seat covers in red-and-beige colour tone, steering wheel cover, Floor mats, Rear parcel tray, door sill guards and keyless entry with security alarm feature. To get this special edition which is offered only with the Vxi and Vxi AT trim level, the buyers have to shell out Rs. 14,990 extra over the corresponding variants.
Talking of the performance numbers the A-Star Aktiv is powered by the same 998 CC K10B petrol engine and delivers 67 PS of peak power with 90 Nm of peak torque. The mileage figures are 19KMPL as per ARAI test certifications. The compact exteriors of A-Star make it a convenient city commuter and because of its compact dimensions and good performance, it is quite popular in Europe.
This special sporty kit is expected to attract new buyers towards this car as this sporty combination does appeal a lot to youth who love their cars to look distinct and cool. College goers and teens will definitely get attracted to this new styling. However, in terms of performance, this limited edition does not offer anything extra like what is offered on sports editions like Punto 90 BH or Vista 90 HP, the A-Star Aktiv is more of a Body kit only. But we think that Maruti understands Indian buyers quite well and there are more buyers who seek style than those who seek pure performance. Lets see how this kit helps with the sales numbers in the coming few months. We leave you below with some more close up pictures to look at the changes more closely:
