Maruti Suzuki is planning to strengthen its MPV and SUV portfolio in the Indian market and Engage is the medium to achieve that.
The latest visualization of Maruti Engage looks too close to the production version. The largest carmaker in the country is amidst the process of expanding its already large and varied portfolio. In the past, it has overpopulated the entry-level and compact SUV segments of our market. Lately, it has been focusing on high-end segments like mid-size SUV and MPV segments. Engage might well be Maruti’s version of the Toyota Innova Hycross, which is a part of the Suzuki-Toyota global partnership. This latest digital illustration shows what we could expect.

This visualization is rendered by a prominent digital automobile artist, Bagrawala Designs on YouTube. It captures a unique take on the upcoming Engage. While there are no confirmations regarding the specifics of the Engage, it is slated to be a 7-seat MPV or SUV. In this digital guise, the front fascia and the overall silhouette are reminiscent of something like the Innova Hycross. There is a large grille, sleek headlamp cluster, sporty bumper, attractively contoured fog lamp housing and chrome inserts for an enticing appearance.

On the sides, there is a characteristic crease that runs across the length of door panels, squared wheel arches, chrome embellishments underneath the window frames, black side pillars, wrap-around taillamps, machined alloy wheels, ORVM-mounted turn indicators, chrome door handles and more. The rear profile is dominated by a roof-mounted spoiler, a sturdy bumper, a chrome bar connecting the split-LED taillights and a rugged skid plate area under the bumper. All in all, this certainly looks like a model that could make it to production.

Specs
Although there are no official announcements yet, we might see a petrol and a strong hybrid powertrain with Maruti Engage. These could be the same mills that power the Toyota Innova Hycross. This means that we might see a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre strong petrol hybrid engine making 174 PS / 205 Nm and 186 PS / 206 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. It will have a monocoque chassis and will be underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. We will need to wait until July, which is when more details will surface.
