Toyota has launched a budget-friendly avatar of the Fortuner called Leader in the international market and here is a walkaround video of the same.
Toyota Fortuner Leader has been showcased in this video by an Indian vlogger. Fortuner is the most popular 7-seat SUV in its segment in India. It has been the crowd favourite for the Japanese carmaker since its inception. Until a couple of years ago, it had fierce competition from the Ford Endeavour but that has stopped because the Endy is no longer in production. In fact, Ford has quit manufacturing all cars in India. This has given a free hand to Toyota to test out various higher and lower-end iterations of the Fortuner. This one belongs to the latter.

Toyota Fortuner Leader – Exterior and Styling
There are minute changes to the exterior of the Leader compared to the Legender which are visible only to the keen eye. This includes things like a regular projector headlamp as opposed to the quad-LED unit in the Legender, a slightly differently designed bumper and skid plate area and a large Toyota badging at the centre. On the sides, the profile is almost identical to the Legender like chrome door handles, black side pillars and alloy wheels. At the rear, the overall profile is the same but there is a Leader badging on the boot gate.

Interior and Features
On the inside, the overall layout remains the same. There are soft-touch materials on the door panels, the front seats are powered but not ventilated like in Legender, the instrument cluster and steering mounted controls are similar to the regular Fortuner, there is no wireless charging, and the audio system is a regular one instead of the JBL one in the Legender. All in all, there are most comfort and convenience features that you find on the more expensive models.

Specs
However, the prime reason for the price cut is the engine. It has a smaller 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine that makes 150 PS and 400 Nm of peak power and torque compared to the 2.8-litre turbo diesel making 204 PS and 500 Nm in Legender. This, along with the few feature cuts, ensures that the price of this model is around Rs 33 lakh. On the other hand, the Legender costs around Rs 60 lakh in India. Note that the price of the Leader is according to the foreign market and might be slightly higher if it makes it to our shores. We shall see if Toyota brings it to India or not.
