The Alto brand has given a lot to Maruti Suzuki and it still is serving with a smile. In 2010, Maruti brought a major change to the Alto line-up with the introduction of Maruti Alto K10. Compared to the earlier model then, the Alto K10 arrived with a bigger 1.0 litre engine which produced a max power output of 67 BHP at 6200 RPM and peak torque of 90 Nm at 3500 RPM. This was a serious step up from the 800 CC model which used to deliver 46 BHP of max power and 62 Nm of torque at 3000 RPM.
The car immediately became popular and started registering enormous sales. After two long years, Maruti has again created history with the bookings of the newly launched Maruti Alto 800. So far the car has received 20,000 + bookings. The new Alto 800 comes with an improved version of the trusted FD8 engine and puts out 47.5 BHP of max power at 6000 RPM and 69 Nm of peak torque at 3500 RPM.
Now the interesting news we are hearing from Gaadi.com is that Maruti has started working on a K10 version of the new Alto 800 – the 2013 Alto K10. This means that a new model of the Alto 800 is soon going to arrive that too with the familiar and bigger 1.0 litre K10 engine that will offer more power and torque. Despite the increase in power and torque, the engine will maintain its fuel efficiency, meaning a real treat for entry level buyers.
Moreover the update will not be restricted to the engine only, and the car is expected to get some cosmetic improvements, to distinguish it from the new Alto 800. The price will also be higher than the new Alto but expectedly Maruti will introduce one or two entry level variants in the new Alto K10 line-up for price conscious buyers. The car will surely be a hit as is the new Alto 800 and as per the information we have, it will be launched around mid of 2013.
