Fronx has a 1.0-litre turbo petrol Boosterjet engine and a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet VVT engine that makes 100 PS / 147.6 Nm and 90 PS / 113 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed automatic transmission depending on the variant. For mild off-roading scenarios, Fronx offers a much more rigid body structure despite a monocoque chassis.

On the other hand, the Baleno comes powered by the same 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet VVT with an idle start/stop function engine as the Fronx. It makes a decent 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. In terms of dimensions, both are almost similar since both of these are under 4 m in length. That is the reason why the boot space and wheelbase are almost similar as well.

Maruti announced that the prices of the Fronx range from Rs 7.46 lakh to Rs 13.13 lakh, ex-showroom. This places it in an interesting position in MSIL’s lineup overlapping with the Baleno premium hatchback and Brezza compact SUV. Note that the 1.2-litre trims of the Fronx range from Rs 7.46 lakh to Rs 9.27 lakh, ex-showroom which is the only powertrain that the Baleno is equipped with. On the other hand, the Baleno is priced from Rs 6.61 lakh to Rs 9.88 lakh, ex-showroom.

Note that the top model in the 1.2-litre version is the Delta trim which is the mid-level trim in the Fronx’s overall lineup. The higher Zeta and Alpha trims are exclusively available with the 1.0-litre version. On the other hand, the top trim of the Baleno is the Alpha trim with all the bells and whistles. Hence, it will have all the features whereas Fronx’s Delta model will lack a lot of convenience features.
