The Brio is a popular car in the Asian markets and that is why Honda gives equal importance to India and the nearby region. Thailand is also a very important market for the Brio and Honda is planning to launch the upcoming Brio sedan, the one which we have talked about a couple of times in the past, in the same alongside India.
While the fans here in India are eagerly waiting to get even the slightest of the glimpse of the upcoming Brio sedan, Honda has posted a teaser image of the car on its official Thailand website.
The Brio sedan will be launched in India next year and could become a huge success for two reasons. Firstly the Indian market gives excise benefits to car measuring less than 4 meters, and importantly the Brio sedan will be a sub-4 meter vehicle. And secondly, the car will need a diesel engine to gain good sales and since Honda is already working on a small capacity diesel engine for Brio, Jazz and City, no doubt the sedan version will be powered by this engine.
Honda is the only car maker in India with a petrol line-up only, and in the recent months the sales of the same have been battered badly. So now the company is betting big on the new sedan as it will come with a diesel engine and will be priced competitively.
Apparently confirmed by Honda officials, the Brio sedan will equip an all new 1.5 litre four cylinder diesel engine which has been developed on the lines of the 1.8 litre Earth Dreams diesel engine. The same engine will power the next generation Honda City and Honda Jazz models.
This new car has a massive responsibility on its shoulders as it will be first Honda product to come with a diesel engine. Also it would be interesting to see whether it can recreate the magic that Honda petrol cars created once.
Competition wise it will go head to head with the 2012 Maruti Swift Dzire and the Mahindra Verito CS which is expected to be launched in March 2013.
