Even though the Maruti Jimny could offer stiff competition to the Mahindra Thar, the latter has just received a price rise of Rs 1.05 Lakh
Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular cars in the Indian market. The off-roader SUV was launched in August 2020. Earlier this year (January 2023), the company into a new rear-wheel drive version. Recently, popular cars are getting new price hikes this month, owing to the BS6 Stage-II upgrades. However, the prices of the Mahindra Thar lineup have been hiked by as much as Rs 1.05 Lakh. This is a massive jump. The base variant is now more expensive by Rs 55,000. Let’s take a closer look:

Mahindra Thar RWD Now Costlier by Upto Rs 1.05 Lakh
The four-wheel drive version of the Thar is now available for Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 16.77 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India). The price of all four-wheel drive variants has been hiked by Rs 28,200. The petrol-automatic version of the hard-top rear-wheel drive has also received a price hike of Rs 28,200. While the base-spec AX (O) diesel-manual hard-top rear-wheel drive is now costlier by Rs 55,000, the price of the Mahindra Thar LX diesel manual hard-top rear-wheel drive has been hiked by Rs 1.05 lakh.

While the company is working on a new base-spec 4×4 variant, you must pay more for the currently available Thar variants. Currently, there is no information about the specs and features of the upcoming base-spec variant. However, since it will be positioned below the current AX (O) variant, Mahindra will likely cut down on several features. Additionally, the company is working on a new five-door version of the Mahindra Thar. It has already been spotted during the testing phase.

Currently, the Mahindra Thar comes in two versions – rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive variant is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 150 PS power and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It also comes with a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 115 PS power and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The four-wheel drive variant also comes with two powertrain options – a 2.0-liter 150 PS turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-liter 130 PS diesel engine. Both engine options come with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

The Mahindra Thar is currently the fan favorite among off-roading enthusiasts. However, there is a huge interest in off-roading vehicles among Indian customers, and many brands are bringing new off-roading vehicles. This includes the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The 5-door SUV has been receiving a great response since the bookings opened. It comes in Zeta and Alpha versions. Both variants are powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 104 PS power and a 5-speed manual/ 4-speed automatic transmission.
