Fortunately, the Indian government is working with automobile brands to build a good infrastructure for elec vehicles around the country. As of now, metros are quite well-equipped for electric scooters and cars. This has reduced EV anxiety among customers in major cities. Delhi Government Reports Sale of 7,917 EVs in March 2023
According to a new report by the Delhi government, the adoption of EVs is rapidly rising in the national capital. So far, 18,770 units of electric vehicles have been sold this year. This is the highest for any state in India. “Delhi EV sales Mar’23 report.. 7,917 Electric vehicles sold. EV contributed 14.8% of overall vehicles sold in the month; Highest among any states in India. 4W sales contributed to 20% of EV sold. 3W (Goods) contributed 12%. 1.12 lacs EV sold under Delhi EV policy #SwitchDelhi,” tweeted the Delhi government.
The Delhi government has been promoting EVs for a while now. In 2020, the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) government launched a comprehensive policy for electric vehicle buyers. This includes incentives for electric vehicle buyers. Additionally, the Delhi government has also added electric buses to the public transport fleet. Since the new policy, the total number of EVs in the state has grown to 1.12 lakh units. This means that one out of ten cars sold this year was an electric vehicle.

Incentives and Policies to Accelerate EV Adoption
In January and February, EVs contributed 10 percent to the overall vehicle sales in the city. 5,576 EVs were registered in Delhi in January. In February, 48,728 cars were sold in Delhi. Out of these, 5,268 units were electric vehicles. This trend continued in March with the sale of 7,926 electric vehicles (including commercial vehicles). Passenger electric cars contribute to almost 20 percent of sales. The growing numbers in Delhi hint at a bright future for electric vehicles in India.
Just like the Delhi government, many state governments have introduced new incentives and policies to accelerate the EV adoption rate in India. The central government is also promoting the use of EVs in India. It is already working on developing charging infrastructure on major highways. Overall, there is a huge excitement among Indian consumers for EVs. Currently, Tata is leading the charge for electric cars in the country. The Tata Nexon EV is already the best-selling electric SUV.

Tata Motors plans to bring around 10 models in the next two years. This includes the Tata Harrier concept which was showcased at the Auto Expo this year. The company also showcased the Avinya concept and the Curvv EV concept. The new Tata Nexon EV is all set to arrive in the coming months. Currently, four Tata EVs are available for purchase. This includes the Tata Tiago EV, Tata Tigor EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Tata Nexon EV Max. The price ranges from Rs 8.69 Lakh to Rs 18.99 Lakh.
