MG Motors is planning to launch a budget EV suitable for city commuters and the model has been spotted testing in Gurugram.
The latest images of the soon-to-be-launched MG Comet EV while testing have surfaced. It is based on the Wuling Air EV sold in the international market as a budget-friendly city ride. MG Motors recently announced the name Comet and the launch is likely to take place in a few weeks. With this product, MG aims to target and grab the audience who are looking for environment-friendly mobility solutions without burning a hole through their pockets. Here are the details.

MG Comet EV Testing
These images have been shared by the Chinese-owned British carmaker in a bid to create buzz around the EV prior to the imminent launch. That is the reason why the colourful camouflage has been chosen to attract young buyers. It represents a graffiti theme which is a direct call for action for Gen Z. Looking at the real-life images, one can experience the dimensions of this EV. It will be perfectly suited for traffic-intensive city commuters requiring minimal parking space.

Since Comet is based on the Wuling Air EV, the overall length will be just short of 3 m and the wheelbase will hover somewhere around the 2 m mark. Obviously, the Comet will keep the running costs in check in addition to helping, at least the urban spaces becoming pollution-scarce. The interior would include two 10.25-inch touchscreens for infotainment and driver’s instrument cluster, faux leather upholstery, connected car tech, steering-mounted audio controls, climate control, keyless entry, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera and more.

While there are no official announcements related to the specifications, we could relate things to the Wuling Air EV which comes in 2 battery pack options – a 17.3 kWh and a 26.7 kWh. In the most efficient settings, the bigger battery could offer a 300 km range, whereas the smaller battery could offer around 200 km. The electric motor will be able to output a healthy and useful 41 PS of peak power. However, the most enticing part will be the pricing which could be around Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom.
