Honda plans to launch two electric scooters in India. One of them is likely to be the much-awaited Activa EV.
Honda is one of the biggest names in the two-wheeler market in India. The company is planning to enter the EV segment with two electric scooters. While one will come with a fixed battery unit, the other will get a swappable battery pack. Both models are expected to arrive in 2024. The new scooters will be part of the ‘Made in India’ initiative. The company will also export these units . In all chances, one of these will be the much-awaited electric version of the Activa. Honda Activa EV to Feature Fixed Battery
The first Honda EV is slated to arrive in FY24 (April 2023-March 2024). It will likely feature a fixed battery and have a mid-range price tag. Honda has already filed patents for a fixed battery and hub motor. As per recent reports, this model will be called Honda Activa Electric. The company also plans to launch a second EV with a swappable battery. While the upcoming models will feature varying battery architecture and installation, they will be based on a dedicated platform (codenamed Platform ‘E’).
As the EV market is still expanding in India, this is an excellent time for Hinda to enter. The company is going about it systematically. It already plans to set up battery-swapping stations at its 6,000+ touchpoints nationwide. Some of these will be converted to EV-dedicated Workshop ‘E’ that will keep charging cables to charge their fixed battery EVs. As of now, there are only 23 battery-swapping stations in Bangalore.

Batteries to Source Batteries Locally
In phase 2, the company plans to expand in the southern states before placing swapping stations nationwide. To address the demand for its electric products, Honda is setting up a separate factory at its Narsapura plant in Karnataka. The company’s upcoming EVs will be manufactured at this factory. The aim is to produce 1 million units by 2030. The batteries and Power Control Units will be sourced from local manufacturers. Tell us what you think of the Honda Activa EV.
