Maruti is all set to launch the 2023 WagonR in the Indian market. Now, the specs of the hatchback have been leaked.
The 2023 Maruti WagonR is one of the most anticipated cars this year. While Maruti Suzuki is still preparing for a launch, the specs have already been leaked online. The new hatchback will come in LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+ variants. Only the LXi and VXi variants will be available in a CNG version. There is no information about the upcoming model’s price tag and launch date. Here’s all we know about the specs of the 2023 WagonR.

Tuned to Meet BS6 Phase II Emission Norms
The updated Wagon R will be powered by the 1.0-liter and 1.2-liter petrol engines. Both engines feature Dualjet, Dual VVT, ISS, and cooled EGR technology. For transmission, they can be paired with a five-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. Additionally, the CNG version will come with a 1.0-liter powertrain that offers 52bhp of power and 82Nm of torque. The hatchback will offer a maximum power of 57 bhp in CNG mode.

The 2023 Maruti WagonR has also been tuned to meet the BS6 Phase II emission standards. This will ensure that it will offer better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Most brands are updating their models as the BS6 Phase 2 and RDE norms come into effect from 1 April. Maruti Suzuki has used this opportunity to bring an improved WagonR model. The sales for the current model have been in decline. It only sold 16889 units in February 2023, resulting in a 17.48 percent month-on-month decline. However, this might be a temporary dip.
One of the Highest Selling Cars
The Maruti WagonR still continues to maintain a huge fan base in India. In H1 2022, it sold 1,13,407 units, making it the No.1 selling car in the country. In 2021, it sold 94,879 in the same period. This amounts to a 19.58 percent increase in sales numbers. The 2022 Maruti WagonR facelift is way ahead of the Maruti Swift, which holds the number two spot with the sale of 91,177 units. In fact, the WagonR managed to sell more than Tata Tiago (28,619 units) and Tigor (23,759 units) put together. Even in July 2022, the WagonR sold 22,568 copies as against 6,159 units of the Tiago and 5,433 units of the Tigor.

The Maruti WagonR was initially launched in 1999. It has been a popular choice among the Indian middle class. Currently, the compact car comes in 11 variants. It comes with a price tag of Rs 5.53 Lakh for the base variant. The top-end model is priced at Rs 7.41 Lakh. Recently, Maruti Suzuki launched the Grand Vitara SUV in India. It comes in three variants – petrol, CNG, and petrol-electric hybrid. Despite a waiting period of 3 months, the company sold over 9183 Grand Vitara units in February 2023.
