The Indonesian market has great potential for crossovers and MPVs and which is why global majors who exist in that part of the globe, consider launching new models more often. Daihatsu, one of the oldest Japanese car manufacturer and currently owned by Toyota, has unveiled an all new concept for the Indonesian market.
Many of you must be familiar with the name Daihatsu. The Indonesian subsidiary of the company, Astra Daihatsu Motors (ADM) has unveiled an all new concept crossover called as Daihatsu UFC at the 2012 Indonesia International Motor Show.
Made specifically for Indonesia, the concept was engineered after a comprehensive study of the demands of the customers and the UFC stands for Ultra Functional Compact. If you look at the proportions of the car, it is noticeable that the front and rear overhangs have been kept small to keep the overall length less. Also the wheelbase is quite long to offer enormous amount of space for the six passengers which would occupy the three rows of seats.
The front two doors of the car are hinged at the side panel as seen in the conventional cars, while the at the rear the car has sliding doors on either side. This is similar to the configuration we have seen in Ford B-Max and Daihatsu engineers have completely eliminated the B pillar.
Though it seems to be an ambitious car, there is nothing unique in this concept and the features list includes big alloy wheels, fancy scuff plates, LED lights etc. All in all it would amaze you as you must have seen many other and probably better crossover concepts in the recent past.
The overall interior is very futuristic with blue inserts on the dashboard and door trims and a blue lit instrument cluster. The centre console has a multi functional display screen with chrome finished buttons at the bottom. Overall it does look very attractive but it does not have the element of practicality, so seeing such a design on the production line is less probable.
ADM says, “The car is surprisingly convenient and can be used in a range of living conditions in Indonesia”.
Let us see if the car actually could lead to a production model or inspire the next generation Toyota Avanza. There is another news that Toyota may develop a crossover based on Toyota Etios platform for India and ASEAN nations, so it this Toyota Daihatsu UFC Concept the product which will be developed on the Etios platform, or will Toyota use an altogether different platform, the question will be answered with time.
