The 2012 Paris Motor Show is the next big automobile event we are keeping our eyes on. It is scheduled to commence on September 29 and will end on October 14, 2012. It is known that we are going to witness some of the most important showcases of the year at the upcoming show and as the date is nearing, manufacturers are gradually disclosing more and more information about their to-be-showcased products.
Peugeot may have put their Indian operations on a halt but this French major has some interesting products down the line for the international markets. Since Peugeot belongs to France, a lot of expectations are there for the Paris Motor Show. To our content, the company has released the official images of its upcoming concept SUV weeks ahead of its unveiling at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
Called as Peugeot 2008, it is B segment crossover which the car maker plans to showcase at the event. Interestingly it the same segment that is currently ruled by Dacia Duster (Renault Duster in India) and Nissan Juke. This very segment is evolving at an impressive pace with cars like Ford EcoSport, Chevrolet Trax, Honda Jazz-based compact sub, Opel Mokka and Ssangyong XIV to be added soon. Now that Duster is here and EcoSport is all set to arrive in early 2013, who knows once this concept hits the production line, Peugeot may consider this car right away for the Indian market.
The car is sporty, very modern and is compact at 4.14 meters (length). It will target the urban commuters and design wise, is inspired by the Urban Crossover Concept which debuted at the Beijing Motors Show earlier this year.
The design incorporates large air dams at the front for that macho look, an aggressive styling with sharp sleek headlamps having LED lights, typical Peugeot grille with a hood embedded logo and lovely multi-spoke alloys.
Talking about the engine options now, the petrol variant will have four engine options which are as follows:
- A 1.2 VTi petrol unit that produces 82 BHP
- A 1.4 VTi petrol unit that produces 95 BHP
- A 1.6 VTi petrol unit that produces 120 BHP
- A 1.6 THP petrol unit that produces 156 BHP
Diesel engine options include the following:
- A 1.4 litre HDi diesel unit that produces 70 BHP
- A 1.6 litre e-HDi diesel unit that produces 92 HBP
The crossover will not be produced before 2014. So as of now we are not sure whether it will come to India or not but if Peugeot is closely watching the Indian market, I am sure they will consider the car for India in the near future.
