Below is the report of the Japanese version of Wagon R which was launched in September 2012 in Japan. The Indian model is different and details are provided in the links in above section.

Suzuki Japan has revealed the 2013 Wagon R small car in Japan which will be the next generation of Wagon R Kei car for Japan domestic market. The 2013 Wagon R and Wagon R sting ray editions have been revealed with high fuel efficiency and idle-stop Micro hybrid technology. These cars are powered by 660 CC 3 cylinder petrol engines which produce a peak power of 52 BHP which may seem low, but with right gear ratios and low body weight, these engines are capable of pulling the cars well. Also there are special technologies to save fuel like regenerative braking, special generator and lithium-ion battery system. There is also a turbo-charged version with 64 BHP of power. These engines deliver a mileage of between 20 to 25 KMPL.
In terms of looks, the new Wagon R is quite facelifted compared to the previous Japanese version with new and larger headlamps, larger air-dams and front grille design along with more attractive looking grille.
There are new design alloy wheels, sporty rear spoiler, body coloured outside rear-view mirrors, body coloured bumpers, body coloured-door handles, redesigned rear tail lamp cluster etc. all give an improved look to the new Wagon R.
The interiors are also quite airy and spacious with grey interiors, large glass windows area, automatic transmission system, engine start-stop button, Integrated audio system etc. to name a few.
There are steering mounted audio controls, silver black 3 spoke steering wheel design with use of chrome on the inside door handles, black-silver finish on the dashboard of the car.
The interiors of the car feature split seats with flat folding at rear to increase the boot space of the car.
In Japanese currency, the price is 1,109,850 Yen which is approximately Rs. 8 Lakhs when converted to Indian currency. During the Auto Expo 2012, Maruti Suzuki showcased some of thee Kei cars in India, so going forwards, we can expect some of these cars making it to Indian roads with higher capacity 800 to 1000 CC engines of the FD8 or K series from Maruti Suzuki. The ongoing Maruti Wagon R from India is doing well in terms or sales, so a refresh may or may not happen soon.
