It is starting to become common for EVs to clock a lot of miles as they get older. Most of these cars are Tesla as it is the biggest EV maker in the world selling cars for almost 2 decades.
The running cost of a Tesla EV after clocking 1 million miles on the odometer has been revealed. Tesla is the biggest carmaker in the world. It has been selling EVs for a long time now which is why its vehicles have clocked a lot of miles compared to the other EVs. It is common knowledge that the running costs of EVs are significantly lower compared to traditional cars powered by IC engines. While the initial cost of EVs is high, the running costs over the course of the lifetime of an EV compensate for that a lot.

Running Cost of Tesla
The video has been uploaded by Ryan Shaw on his YouTube channel. He shares data regarding various cases where Tesla owners have showcased their experience of owning the EV for 100,000 miles, 200,000 miles upto 1,000,000 miles. In general, Tesla has mentioned on its website that there is a standard 8-year warranty or between 100,000 and 150,000 miles (depending on various models and configurations), whichever comes first. Moreover, the battery capacity must be around 70% for it to be eligible for a replacement.

Within these parameters, Tesla will replace the battery at no cost. However, looking at the reports shared by owners in the video, they have completed a lot more miles without facing severe battery issues. Even until 400,000 miles, there were just 2 instances of a battery replacement (one of them was free of cost). Hence, after driving for over 200,000 miles, if one has to spend around $25,000 on battery replacement, it is still worth it because there are no other maintenance costs as EVs have much fewer moving parts.

This makes it interesting since the overall running costs of EVs over such a long period of time are drastically lower than their ICE counterparts. In fact, going forward, the prices of fuel will continue to rise and the prices of EV technology will fall. That is why Tesla is planning a sub $25,000 EV soon. Looking at the running costs of newer EVs, the transition from ICEs to EVs seems worth it.
