The country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest exporter Hyundai is speculated to be working on two new engines that will make their way into the next generation Hyundai i10 codenamed BA. Slated for an India launch in September 2013, the next gen model of this popular hatch is believed to come with two downsized engines: a petrol and a diesel.
The 2013 i10 will sport a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder Kappa petrol engine which is a downsized unit. Along with it, the company will also offer a 1.1 litre CRDI diesel engine with the i10, the to-be smallest diesel engine in the portfolio of Hyundai Motor India, as currently the company only offers diesel engines with capacities of 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre.
As far as the petrol engine goes, the company has a 1.2 litre 4 cylinder Kappa unit that does duty in the i10 and i20. Beside the 1.2 litre engine the Hyundai also offers the i10 in a 1.1 litre Epsilon variant. But the upcoming 1.0 litre Kappa unit is expected to replace the Epsilon engine and will be a superior option over the other petrol unit. From the technical point of view, Kappa engines are quite advanced in terms of refinement, smooth operation and performance and despite their smaller displacement they can put out impressive amounts of power and torque.
The 1.0 litre Kappa has been developed specifically for the Indian market and will be manufactured at the company’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu, India. The 1.1 litre diesel engine will also be produced at the same facility starting September 2013. New setups are being established for the manufacturing of the new engines at the Chennai plant but whether Hyundai will produce the engines on same production line (like Ford does) is not clear yet.
Though the initial production for these new engines will be small in number which the carmaker is expected to take to 165,000 units per annum shortly. If the response is overwhelming enough and the demand rises in the near future, the company will not hesitate pushing the annual production capacity to 200,000 units.
Most likely the engines will be ready for testing purpose by the end of 2012 and in the first quarter of 2013, the testing will begin in India.

Some spy pictures of the 2013 Hyundai i10 have been shared by WordCarFans. The new model has been spotted with heavy camouflage but some of the visual elements were quite visible even behind those covers.
The headlamps get chunkier and extent more towards the grille whereas the fog lamps are kind of oval in shape compared to the triangular shape of the 2010 Hyundai i10. The grille and front bumper also seem to have got some redesign.
The side profile of the new i10 is somewhat similar to the ongoing model but the glass areas seem to have been modified, the quarter glass behind the rear door window is now smaller and front door glass seems bigger than the ongoing model. There are sporty 8 spoke alloy wheels on the test car which may or may not make it to the final version.
The roof mounted antenna has also moved from the front of the roof to the rear side for a more sporty appeal. There are integrated rear fog lamps integrated in the rear bumper. The tail lamp cluster and boot door also seems to have been redesigned.
Outside rear view mirrors also seem to have been changed in shape as well as styling.

2013 Hyundai i10 has been spotted testing in India and shared on the web by ACI also and the car seems almost the same as the car spied by WCF above.
There is heavy camouflage on the car but its easily identifiable as the Hyundai’s upcoming 2013 Hyundai i10 which will also debut with a small 1 litre diesel engine in India.
The test car has a temporary license plate of Tamilnadu and is covered from all sides. It is now confirmed that Hyundai is testing the new i10 at multiple locations and we can expect the car to launch around mid of 2013 or maybe earlier.
