It is a tough job for auto companies to offer value for money cars especially in the Indian market. Talking about sedans in specific, entry level segment includes some great cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Ford Classic etc. Another very potent entry level sedan is the 2012 new Mahindra Verito. Though highly understated, the car is a great value for money deal and now that the 2012 model is out we are even more pleased. We have compared the Mahindra Verito VS Ford Classic in our previous comparison and today we will be comparing new Verito head on with New Swift Dzire, the highest selling compact sedan of this segment.
Exterior Comparison
The 2012 Verito has undoubtedly impressed us. Unlike the previous generation model, it comes with plenty of chrome and cladding on the exterior to give it an upmarket feel.Changes include new front fascia, new grille with chrome, new lid on the boot, clear lens headlamps and tail lamps, new eyebrow headlamps, new front and rear bumper, new alloy wheels, new side cladding etc.
The Dzire is now a couple of months old but that does not affect the charm of this car. Essentially it is a 2011 Maruti Swift with an small boot or Maruti Swift Dzire with a compressed boot. Although the idea of a compact Dzire somehow worked, in terms of proportions it looks a little awkward.
2012 Mahindra Verito Dimensions
- Overall length: 4277 mm
- Overall width: 1740 mm
- Height: 1540 mm
- Wheel base: 2630 mm
Maruti Swift Dzire 2012 Dimensions
- Length = 3995 mm
- Width = 1695 mm
- Height = 1555 mm
- Wheelbase = 2430 mm
Dimension wise the Dzire stands nowhere near to the Verito. The Verito is significantly longer and wider. The height of both the cars is same but in terms of wheelbase, again the Verito leads. So no doubt you not only get better space in the Verito but slightly better looks as well.
Interiors Comparison

Although the 2012 Verito is said to feature a redesigned dashboard, it still looks a bit dated. Quality wise one may not have any issues but in looks, it surely isn’t appealing. Features list includes 2 DIN audio system (new), conveniently placed power window switches (new), electrically adjustable ORVMs (new), variometric AC with electronic controls and fast cooling (new), front and rear head restrains, front door map pockets, rear defogger, remote locking and central locking, beige interiors with fabric upholstery, fabric door trims, driver side airbag on top end D6 model, engine immobilizer, child locks for rear doors, ABS and EBD in top end model D6 etc.

Gladly Maruti has really worked hard on its recent models and it shows in the quality and design of the interior cabin. Dzire’s two tone dashboard looks good both in design and quality. The space at the rear may disappoint you but as an overall package, it is good. Features list includes new improved suspension, large headlamps, chrome strip on the boot lid, Large rear bumper with mid mounted reflector, High mounted brake lamp, Rear defogger, indicators on the outside rear view mirrors, door handles with chrome finishing, Electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, Wood inserts at the front door trims and dashboard, Large AC vents for effective air conditioning, Integrated audio system with USB/CD/AM/FM Radio, USB and Aux-input, Tilt adjustable steering, Steering mounted audio controls, ABS and EBD, Automatic climate control, Dual SRS Airbags for safety etc.

Talking about petrol variants of the two first, the Verito features a 1.4 litre unit while the Dzire equips a smaller 1.2 litre engine. Verito’s 1.4 litre engine produces 75 BHP and 110 Nm. Despite being smaller, Dzire’s engine produces 85.8 BHP and 114 Nm which is significantly more. In terms of mileage, the Verito petrol stands at 14 KMPL whereas the Dzire leads at 19 KMPL.
Coming to the diesel versions now, the Verito diesel has a 1.5 litre dCI motor that puts out 65 BHP and 160 Nm. On the other hand the Dzire diesel sports a 1.3 litre DDIS unit that offers 74 BHP and 190 Nm, which again are much better figures compared to the Verito. Mileage wise again the Dzire leads with 23.4 KMPL as against Verito’s 21 KMPL.
So no doubt the Dzire is a better option if you are expecting overall engine performance and fuel economy.
Performance & Handling
The Verito is an average car when it comes to handling and ride quality. Though the comfort level is better at the rear seat when compared to Dzire, the car doesn’t make you say wow. The Dzire contrastingly has a better suspension which offers superior ride quality and driving dynamics. The Dzire is more confident on sharp bends than the Verito.

Mahindra Verito G2/G4 Vs Maruti Dzire LXI/VXI
The Verito base petrol G2 starts at Rs. 5.27 lakh while the next variant G4 is priced at Rs.5.49 lakh. The Dzire on the other hand, is cheaper with the base LXI priced at Rs.4.88 lakh and the next variant VXi coming at Rs.5.41 lakh. Here as you see the base variants have a price difference of close to Rs.40,000 which is a bit much considering the fact that both are the base variants with the most basic of the features. The G4 variant is priced a little above and comes with features like power windows, central locking, body coloured door handles etc. which are already present on the Dzire VXi that is Rs.9,000 cheaper.
Comparison of the Dzire ZXI petrol is not possible with the Verito as the latter does not have a top-end petrol variant and the line-up ends at G4. But if you still want a feature rich car with plenty of features the Dzire ZXI would be a good choice.
Mahindra Verito D2 Vs Maruti Dzire LDI
The base diesel Verito D2 is priced at 6.26 lakh INR whereas the base Dzire diesel LDI variant is priced at 5.99 lakh INR. Both the variants come with minimal features and it is hard to choose one of them but if you consider other aspects such as engine output, fuel efficiency the LDI seems to be a much better car.
Mahindra Verito D4 Vs Maruti Dzire VDI
The Verito D4 and Dzire VDI bridge the gap between the top end and base variants of their respective line-ups. If you talk about features the D4 and D2 variant do not differ much but this is not the case with Dzire VDi and LDI. The Dzire is more feature rich and does overshadow the Verito and in terms of performance too it is better. So once again the Dzire would be our pick.
Mahindra Verito D6 Vs Maruti Dzire ZDI
Last but not the least the top end Verito D6 is priced at 7.14 lakh while the Dzire ZDI comes at 7.34 lakh. Interestingly here the Verito is cheaper than the Dzire. Both the cars come with all the mentioned features and here one’s major concern should be the looks and performance. So no doubt the Dzire leads yet again.
