Altroz Racer Edition
Arguably the most interesting product in the lineup was the Altroz Racer Edition which is the hot-hatch version of the premium hatchback. It is aimed at rivalling the Hyundai i20 N-Line. It comes powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol engine that makes 125 PS / 225 Nm and 170 PS / 280 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. This is certainly geared toward extreme driving enthusiasts making it a proper hot hatch in every sense of the word. There are tons of distinguishing elements on the Altroz Racer Edition on the outside, as well as inside.

Sierra EV
The almost production-ready version of the iconic Sierra EV has also been displayed at the Auto Expo 2023. Sierra, as widely known, is an iconic name that existed in our market in the 1990s and early 2000s. With the wave of electrification, Tata is trying to resurrect it in the electric avatar and the first glimpses of the same have been shared here. It will most likely go into production within the next two years. It could come equipped with a 4WD configuration. The front fascia holds the LED DRLs on the bonnet and an overall rugged body type.

Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2023 – Harrier EV
We have been hearing about the Harrier EV for a long time now. It will be based on Tata’s Gen 2 architecture and bears a vague resemblance with the ICE-powered Harrier that is on sale at the moment. At the front, the dead giveaway about the green credentials of the SUV is the closed-off grille section with an illuminated Tata logo. Apart from that, the LED DRLs on the bonnet look quite sleek and the bumper has been completely redesigned.

Additionally, the lower section of the bumper houses a rugged skid plate to accentuate the stance and practicality of the SUV. There is a broad area with black elements to highlight the sportiness. On the sides, the alloy wheels are aerodynamically efficient which is the case with most modern EVs these days. It will also come with an AWD setup which means that there will be two electric motors powering each axle. Some of the styling changes seen on the vehicle could make it to the much awaited facelift that should debut soon.

CURVV
Tata also showcased the CURVV coupe SUV at the Auto Expo 2023. Interestingly, the CURVV unveiled last year was reported to come with an electric powertrain but the one displayed at the Auto Expo 2023 has a turbo petrol engine. The design of the CURVV is quite attractive incorporating the coupe-SUV silhouette. The trend of the LED DRLs on the bonnet and main headlamps cluster on the bumper continues with the CURVV as well. The Gen 2 EV architecture that will underpin the CURVV is capable of supporting multiple powertrains and body types. The market launch might be somewhere in 2024.

Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2023 – Avinya
The Avinya will be the brand’s first dedicated EV based on the Gen 3 EV architecture which is the most advanced from Tata Motors. Tata had already unveiled the Avinya at an event last year and the reception has been great. The overall design language of the Avinya is completely different from anything we have seen from Tata yet. The Born Electric Platform will offer a minimum range of over 500 km on a single charge and the market launch is expected in 2025.

Altroz and Punch CNG
CNG is the flavour of the season in the Indian market over the last couple of years. The astronomical fuel prices are forcing people to look for alternatives. With EVs being too expensive at the moment, CNG seems like the only viable option, at least for city dwellers. Keeping that in mind, Tata Motors unveiled the CNG version of the Punch and Altroz. Note that Tata already has a CNG product in its fleet in the form of Tiago/Tigor CNG. The same powertrain will also now power the Punch and Altroz CNG versions.

With the Tiago and Tigor, the 1.2-litre petrol engine that can run on CNG makes a decent 73 PS and 95 Nm of peak power and torque. Mated to this powertrain is a sole 5-speed manual transmission which is what is expected in the Altroz and Punch CNG as well. There could well be a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard versions for both of these cars. Which cars from Tata Motors at the Auto Expo 2023 excited you the most?
