Honda Europe recently unveiled the 2012 CR-V for its market. Earlier the car was unveiled in the US at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Evidently both the American and European model does not differ much in styling and design however the most interesting thing about the European one was that it features a diesel engine.
Yes you heard it right, Honda is offering the CR-V with two diesel engines in Europe and they are – An all new 1.6 litre turbocharged diesel engine featuring EarthDreams technology that can churn out a maximum power of 118 BHP and peak torque of 300 Nm And a carried over 2.2 litre i-DTEC diesel engine that can deliver 148 BHP of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque.
The European model is slightly different from the US model as it features the following:
- A Fin-Style antenna
- Redesigned ORVMs with running lights
- Revised front bumper
- Front LED daytime running lights
- Rear LED lights
The has not yet made its debut and will make the same at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September. The car will then go on sale across Europe in October.
What hurts us is that why Honda has not introduced a diesel engine yet? Its quite clear from the sales of this Japanese maker that it is not performing well enough majorly because of better value for money cars in the market and the soaring petrol prices. Despite all that the company is taking too long to come up with an India specific diesel unit.
Recently the Brio was spotted with a diesel unit which is a smaller capacity engine for volumes puller models such as the Brio, Jazz and City. This confirms that an engine is under testing, however there is no diesel unit for premium Honda models such as Civic, Accord and CR-V.
This once popular SUV has gradually disappeared from the market and unfortunately even Honda showed less interest in keeping it abreast with the changing times. Now that the diesel CR-V is all set to hit the European turf in October, we hope Honda seriously considers bringing a diesel engine, probably the 1.6 litre unit to the Indian sub-continent.
