Citroen is all set to launch an electric version of the C3 model in the Indian market. The electric hatchback has been spotted before launch.
Last year, Citroen launched the C3 in the Indian market. Now, the French carmaker is ready to launch an electric version of their entry-level hatchback. It will likely be called Citroen eC3. The electric hatchback has been in the testing phase for a while. Now, a production-ready version of the upcoming car has been spotted. The official launch is expected to take place later this month. It will compete with the likes of the Tiago EV in the segment. The Citroen eC3 seems different from the Citroen C3 in a few ways. Let’s take a closer look!

Citroen eC3 vs ICE Version
As you can see in the YouTube video by by Talking Cars, a production-ready Citroen eC3 test vehicle was spotted in Chennai at a charging station. On the outside, it looks similar to the ICE version. It retains the original model’s halogen headlamps and teel rims with wheel caps. It even carried the same muscular looking cladding around the car. While the rear fender and front fenders are camouflaged, you can see that the fuel lid has been removed. The charging port is placed on the front fender.
Interestingly, the front grill is also the same. The test model does not feature a closed grille set up at the front. Usually, EVs don’t need a closed grille as there is no engine under the bonnet that needs cooling. The final production version might get a modified grille. On the inside, the Citroen eC3 sports a small monochrome digital instrument cluster. Instead of fuel level, it offers readings for the battery percentage and range. Obviously, the gear lever on the C3 hatchback has been removed. The company has added a toggle switch that offers three options – Neutral, Drive, and Reverse. However, the center console does not come with park mode and regen mode buttons.

Specifications
The Citroen eC3 is expected to be powered by a 28 kWh battery pack. It is likely to come with a range of around 230 km to 240 km on a single charge. Another version with a 30.2 kWh battery pack is said to offer a range of 315 km. The production version is likely to come with fast charging support. However, in the eC3 test mules, the charging speed of the batteries was too low (16 kW) when compared to others in the segment. Citroen might offer two versions of the electric hatchback in India – a short and long-range. Two trims of the Citroen eC3 have been spotted so far.
