In the latest news, the Made-in-India VW Virtus has managed to score full 5 stars on the Latin NCAP test. Virtus is based on the MQB A0 IN platform that is developed by Volkswagen specifically for emerging markets like India and Latin America. VW has always been particular about the safety of its vehicles which is why it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the Virtus scored the highest rating. In India, it competes against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and its cousin, the Skoda Slavia.

VW Virtus Scores 5 Stars on Latin NCAP Test
In adult occupant protection, Virtus scored an impressive 92% points. The protection for the head and neck of the driver and passenger was good, the driver’s chest showed adequate protection, the passenger’s chest showed good protection, the driver and passengers’ knee showed good protection, driver’s tibias and passenger’s left tibia showed adequate protection, passenger’s right tibia showed good protection, the footwell area was rated stable and the bodyshell was also rated stable and capable of withstanding further load.

In terms of child occupant protection, Virtus was able to score 92% points. For the 3-year-old child, the vehicle was capable of preventing head exposure and offered good protection, using the rearward ISOFIX anchorages. The CRS prevented head exposure offering full protection. In the pedestrian and vulnerable road users category, the virus scored 53% points, while for the Safety Assist Systems, it was able to bag 85% points.

The VW Virtus comes powered by a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine. The smaller engine outputs a maximum power of 115 PS and a peak torque of 175 Nm, while the larger unit offers a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The transmission options for the former include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the latter comes with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. The prices range from Rs 11.32 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh, ex-showroom.
