In an interesting turn of events, an aircraft got stuck under a bridge in Hyderabad. It was being transported on a truck.
Decommissioned aircrafts are often auctioned off to the general public. More often than not, such units are purchased as an added attraction for restaurants, theme parks, or more. Recently, one such aircraft was being transported to Hyderabad on a truck. However, it hit a kind of turbulence on the road. This Airbus A320 aircraft was purchased by the Pista House restaurant group. While it was being delivered, the old model got stuck under a bridge. Several videos of the incident quickly surfaced online. Let’s take a quick look:

As you can see in the video above, the decommissioned aircraft carries the branding of the Pista House restaurant group. When the incident happened, it was being on its way to Hyderabad. The truck and trailer were smoothly carrying the huge aircraft. However, they made a mistake in Andhra Pradesh’s Baptala district and the Airbus A320 got stuck under a bridge. This led to a huge gathering and an eventual traffic jam. Eventually, the local police arrived came to help, and pulled the airplane out. During this duration, normal road vehicles were redirected through a different route.
The Airbus A320 is huge aircraft and the transportation team is quite big (10-15 people or more). Along with navigation, the driver needs extra help. There is a pilot vehicle ahead that clears the traffic ahead. It also does the recce of the road and informs the driver about any hurdles on the road. In such cases, the team acts accordingly and finds a safe path. Usually, such trucks are normally driven at night to avoid traffic and minimize risk. These tasks are usually performed by a private agency with experience in transporting such goods.

Since Kerala does not have very wide roads, transportation remained a challenge from the get-go. The truck got stuck under a bridge in Kollam district’s Chavara region itself. To get the trailer unstuck, they had to deflate the tires. For easy transportation, the wings are detached and carried in a different truck. Even that truck had caused an accident when it ran into a Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus. As of now, it is not clear where the aircraft has reached now. It is surely getting way more attention than the locals clicking selfies with the plane.
Reportedly, the Pista House restaurant group purchased the new aircraft at an auction in Kerala. They paid a total sum of Rs 75 lakh for the decommissioned unit. The plan was to get it to Hyderabad and convert it into a restaurant. Clearly, the Pista House restaurant group could not have predicted the extra attention that has come their way. Overall, the aircraft with the Pista House restaurant group branding has been in the news for a while now. Once it reaches the final destination, the themed restaurant is bound to attract visitors for a while.
