He has over 5.2. million subscribers on YouTube. He has seen the evolution of the brands he is talking about in this video. That is the basis for his analysis of some of the biggest car manufacturers from Asia. So let us get into it.

8. Suzuki
Scotty puts Suzuki in the last position. He confirms that the Japanese carmaker has always focused on affordability and fuel economy in comparison to reliability and quality. As a result, he has had many Suzuki car owners come to him with blown-up engines and various other issues. He feels that Suzuki cars are not great for highway runs but okay for city use (barely).

7. Nissan
Scotty acknowledges the rich history and legacy of Nissan. Nissan produced some great rally cars and decent road cars with a scintillating performance. However, over time the quality of the brand has reduced drastically which is why he placed it at number 7. Note that he is including the Infiniti brand which is made by Nissan.

6. Mitsubishi
Having worked as a car mechanic all his life, he recalls a lot of Mitsubishi car owners coming to him with broken piston rings. As a result, the cars would break down all the time and smoke would pile up. They required frequent visits to the workshops. Scotty also says that they still keep doing that now, for some reason. Also, he tells that Mitsubishi is a part of a Japanese corporation and vehicles are a small part of their business.

5. Subaru
Subaru was one of the main companies that revolutionised making AWD cars for almost all segments. In order to achieve high performance from them, Subaru used to use the Boxer engines. As a result, they had issues with blown-up head gaskets and automatic transmissions. He considers the smaller engine with manual transmissions much better.

4. Hyundai/Kia
Scotty includes Hyundai, Kia and Genesis under the same umbrella as all of them are sub-brands of Hyundai Motor Group. Scotty remembers when Kia and Hyundai cars were not that great at all. However, he quickly accepts that they have improved massively over the last decade or so. Also, they offer cars in the same price segment as the other Asian manufacturers. He says that if you want a car for 100,000 miles (1,60,000 km), Hyundai, Genesis and Kia cars are great.

3. Mazda
Scotty mentions that the quality of Mazda products has been going up significantly over the years. They had a few tie-ups with Toyota and their SkyActive engines are pretty amazing. They had issues with the engines back in the day, but now, they make perfectly good cars.

2. Honda
Honda is the best Asian carmaker, according to Scotty after Toyota. Honda started with two-cylinder cars using the engine from the motorcycles and has improved consistently over the years. He mentions that Honda makes great small and peppy cars but not larger SUVs. If you want a reliable and enthusiastic small car, Honda is the company to go to.

It is no wonder that the largest carmaker in the world is at the top of its list of Scotty as well. In fact, the reliability of Toyota cars is a world-known phenomenon. People pay crazy amounts of money even for used Toyota cars because they know that the engines and components can be relied upon. that is the reason why people are able to drive Toyotas for million miles.
