Alternative powertrain option in modern cars is almost becoming a necessity to tackle astronomical fuel prices.
The Tata Altroz CNG was seen testing by ARAI and the spy media of the sighting has been seen on Rushlane Spylane. With fuel prices always on the rise, car owners, at least in the major cities are showing keen interest in opting for CNG-powered vehicles. The main reasons for this are almost the similar price point as the regular version of the car, availability of CNG stations in cities and great mileage. Tata already offers the CNG variants of the Tiago and Tigor and the introduction of Altroz CNG will widen its portfolio.

The video has been posted on YouTube where an Altroz is seen parked on the side of the road. Although there are no visual changes to the exterior of the premium hatchback, the sticker on the front windshield informs that it is being tested by ARAI. It is confirmed after one takes a look at the rear end of the vehicle. There, an entire kit to test the emissions has been fitted to the exhaust pipe. Since Altroz already comes with petrol and diesel engines, the only variant needed to be tested is the CNG. There are not many elements that give away its credentials.

The Tata Altroz CNG might carry the same CNG powertrain as the Tiago and the Tigor. This means that the 1.2-litre petrol engine will produce 68 hp and 90 Nm of peak power and torque. Also, there will most likely be the option of a sole 5-speed manual gearbox. It will be interesting to see if Tata tweaks the powertrain calibration. This makes sense to suit the premium hatchback which is bigger than the Tiago. There will be a badge representing the CNG powertrain to tell it apart from its ICE counterparts.

With the rise in prices of fuel, people are having to look for alternatives desperately. That is why Tata Motors aims to capitalise on this opportunity. In fact, it is already offering CNG variants of the Tigor and Tiago. Meanwhile, it already dominates the electric car market with the Tigor EV, Nexon EV and Nexon EV. With the Altroz CNG, the Indian auto giant might further expand its CNG portfolio by choosing the popular Punch as its next product to have this powertrain.
