Suzuki in collaboration with Maruti is doing great in India as we all know with amazing sales figures, increasing at a very fast pace. Setting an example of its achievements the brand recently reached the 5 Lakh milestone for K-series engine within a span of 23 months.
We know most of you readers love speed and today we are going to talk about the latest record for speed set by an India bound car which is highly awaited. Maruti Suzuki Kizashi has broken the land speed record in the Blown Gas Coupe category with an average speed of 203.720 MPH in two runs. The car is called as the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi Bonneville Special since the car was heavily tweaked in order to bear the extreme conditions at the Bonneville Salt Flat during the test runs.
The company has a number of records on motorcycles but this time the company made an attempt with four wheels and the person responsible for making this dream come true is Road & Track’s Sam Mitani. Following are the modifications which were made in order to make the car the so called “Bonneville Special” :-
- SCTA-approved roll cage
- An aluminum bulkhead in the rear
- Racing seat
- Seat harnesses and
- Window net
Further the engine also featured several modifications making the car transform into a rocket ready to get through the earth’s atmosphere:-
- A Turbonetics turbocharger for 16 pounds extra boost
- A new ACT clutch and pressure plate
- A scatter shield
- A new drain fitting
- New 3.5-inch exhaust
- Full synthetic 5W-20 racing oil from Lucas Oil for high rpm turbo motor
- Steel wheels seam welded
- Speed-specific 15×7-inch Goodyear Front Runner
- And most importantly a Parachute to bring down the car to lower speeds
