Skoda Slavia Ambition 1.0 AT Owner Review
Q. Why did you choose Skoda Slavia, in particular, and not an SUV like Kushaq?
A. Sedan is the preferred choice for driving enthusiasts and the peppy engine of the Slavia was something that the rivals were not offering. Also, if driven patiently over the potholes and bad patches of road, there are no issues with the sedan either.
Q. Why not choose the VW Virtus instead?
A. The looks of the Virtus are a bit better but the launch was still some time away at the time the owner had to buy the car. So, he decided to opt for the Slavia. Also, the Skoda dealers around him were quite nice.

Q. Why did you choose Ambition over other variants?
A. The owner wanted to buy the Polo GT TSI. Therefore, he was just about able to allocate the budget for the mid-trim Slavia. Also, he feels it is the most value for money. The difference of a couple of lakh between the mid and the top trim was not justified for the owner. He was able to get almost all the necessary features in the Ambition trim itself.
Q. What features do you miss in your car?
A. The owner misses the LED headlights although the halogen units are just as effective and the auto-dimming IRVMs. Apart from that, he doesn’t mind the part-digital instrument cluster, fabric seats (without ventilation function) and the lack of a subwoofer. The regular audio system is sufficient, he feels.

Q. Why not choose Honda City instead?
A. The owner was looking for an automatic transmission and he is not a fan of the CVT that the Honda City comes with. Apart from that, there are no issues with the City as such. But he found the Skoda Slavia to be better looking.
Q. Were you not scared of the horror stories of Skoda ownership?
A. The owner acknowledges that he was aware of the issues with Skoda. But the latest trends have suggested that the brand has been working quite purposefully towards remedying that. Also, the interaction with Skoda dealers was great.
Q. What was the cost of an extended warranty?
A. The owner paid Rs 25,000 for the extended warranty and an additional Rs 25,000 for the 4-year maintenance plan. That will take care of any issues that might crop up in the future.
