The EV industry is only at its nascent stage but some creative minds have begun developing solar-powered EVs that could be the next step in the clean mobility revolution.
Anand Mahindra tweeted at the man who developed a solar car in Kashmir applauding his efforts. Bilal Ahmed is a Mathematics teacher in Srinagar, Kashmir who ventured into the journey of making a solar car. The fuel prices in our country, and across the world, are at an all-time high. To tackle that, people are considering shifting to alternate fuel-powered vehicles. Now, EVs are undoubtedly expensive which leaves them with limited options.

Anand Mahindra Applauds The Man Who Made Solar Car
Bilal took on this project with the aim of popularising solar cars and tying up with a car manufacturer to produce them on a large scale. To build this prototype, Bilal spent Rs 15 lakh. Initially, he had planned to make a car which could be used by disabled people. However, he had to shelve that due to financial constraints. The video shows an old Maruti 800 car whose body is covered in monocrystalline solar panels. The panels are installed on the bonnet, roof, tailgate and doors which open sideways like the sports cars.

These solar panels have the advantage of squeezing out maximum solar energy compared to the regular ones, even on not-so-sunny days. This is important since Kashmir has its fair share of cloudy days. This is true for a whole lot of north Indian states which have mountainous terrain. After watching this amazing feat, Anand Mahindra tweeted, “Bilal’s passion is commendable. I applaud his single-handedly developing this prototype. Clearly the design needs to evolve into a production-friendly version. Perhaps our team at Mahindra Research Valley can work alongside him to develop it further. @Velu_Mahindra?”

He is always coming up with complimentary tweets whenever he comes across innovative and unique people and ideas. India is full of such people who bring creative solutions to widespread problems. That is exactly what Bilal is able to achieve after working so hard on this project which he hopes will make solar power more accessible helping people to save a ton of money and reduce dependence on non-renewable sources of energy. Also, the vehicles would not emit any tailpipe pollution at all. That is the essence of green mobility.
