Mahindra plans to foray into the EV race with its Born Electric range of electric cars that are slated to be showcased on August 15, 2022.
In this official teaser, Mahindra announces that it will showcase the Born Electric vision on August 15, 2022. Mahindra is known for making big announcements and prominent launches on the Independence Day and this time will be no different. Tata Motors has already gained a significant lead in space as far as the Indian carmakers are concerned. It is already the country’s highest-selling EV maker with its Nexon EV bringing in unprecedented sales. Hence, it is time Mahindra joins the league to capitalise on the inevitable EV wave too.

Mahindra Born Electric Vision
In the past, Mahindra has teased the silhouette of its upcoming electric SUVs. The models seem to be uniquely designed keeping up with the trend of coupe-SUV body type. Now, it is quite common for EVs to have flowing and smooth surfaces in a bid to reduce drag coefficient and increase aerodynamic efficiency. It is one of the most crucial factors in achieving a high range on a single charge. We all know how relevant range is to EVs.

In addition to that, Mahindra already offers premium features in its regular cars and we have no reason not to expect it on the EVs. As per the teaser, there will be 5 new electric SUVs. Now, there is no confirmation on whether these will be all new or include the converted versions too. If we were to take a calculated guess, the EVs could include the eKUV100, and eXUV300 (both derived from the internal combustion engine models) and 3 electric SUVs that will be based on the dedicated MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture) platform. One of these 3 could be the XUV900 which has been showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo in the past.

While the eXUV300 will be the ideal rival to the Nexon EV, the XUV900 could be the flagship product in the EV range. We might see a couple of electric SUVs in the segments between these two. The final confirmation will only come on August 15, which is not too far away. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see what the Indian carmaker offers in this new tangent.
