Maruti Suzuki is close to re-introducing the Alto K10 moniker in the form of an all-new-entry-level hatchback that will co-exist with S-Presso
After being discounted around the advent of the BS6 norms back in early 2020, the Maruti Alto K10 looks all set to make a re-entry into our market, albeit in an all-new guise. Two test mules of the upcoming entry-level offering were recently spied during their TVC shoot. A spy image from the sighting has been shared with us by our avid reader Vipul Chaudhary. Codenamed Y0M, the upcoming small car should help MSIL completely dominate the entry-level segment with a strong three-model lineup comprising the Alto 800, S-Presso, and Alto K10.

Next-Gen Maruti Alto K10 Spied
Unfortunately, the rather blurry image doesn’t reveal too much about the hatchback’s aesthetics. However, it’s clear that the small car features a grey dashboard, small wheels that probably measure 13-inch in diameter, and taillights that resemble the ones on the new Celerio. Meanwhile, the rear door looks a fair bit like the one on the S-Presso. Other clearly visible features are the roof reinforcements and the plastic wheel caps for the steel wheels. Overall, the silhouette looks like a cross between that of the S-Presso and the new Celerio.
In spite of the entry-level car market shrinking over the years, Maruti Suzuki believes there’s still a demand for another small car that can co-exist with the Alto 800 and the S-Presso. Gaurav Vangaal, associate director, light vehicle forecasting, S&P Global Mobility, earlier informed Financial Express that the existing 7.8 per cent market share of the entry-level hatchbacks is good enough to bring in another new car. The launch of the next-gen Maruti Alto K10 will not only help Maruti consolidate its standing in the affordable car market, but would even give buyers another option. With the discontinuation of the Hyundai Eon and the Datsun redi-GO, the only comptition that Maruti faces at the moment comes from the Renault Kwid.

With the entry of the next-gen Maruti Alto K10, Maruti Suzuki is expected to boost its sales numbers in the A-segment. Already, the Alto and the S-Presso have accounted for almost 212,000 units in the FY22. The Alto was joined by the K10 variant around a decade after its existence. The 1000cc version was on sale until the advent of the S-Presso a couple of years back. In all, the Alto has sold over 4.3 million copies across two generations. In fact, it was the country’s highest selling car from 2005 to 2018 before it was displaced from the top spot by the Dzire.
