Mahindra Thar, which boasts 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP, has once again proved to be a very safe vehicle
In its second generation now, the Mahindra Thar has time and again impressed with its high crash worthiness. The latest episode, like many others, proves how safe this off-roader is. The accident in focus here took place on Jaipur-Ajmer highway. The SUV was travelling at a high speed when it came in contact with a truck. Even though it suffered pretty big damage, the foreigner who was driving the Thar was totally scratchless.

Foreigner Was Driving on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway
It’s said that the accident occured as the truck braked suddenly and the Mahindra Thar couldn’t stop in time. It’s also reported that the SUV was travelling at a pretty high speed. The video seen above has been shot by the driver of the truck. In this mishap, the front right hand side of the SUV has been totally damaged. The A pillar has snapped from the main body and the even the front fender has been totally damaged. The damage on the Thar is a clear indicator of the severity of the accident.

However, it’s heartening to see that the foreigner who was driving this Mahindra Thar was completely scratchless. A close look at the video shows that in spite of the damage to the A-pillar, front right door and the windscreen, the passenger cell looks intact. Full details of the cause of the accident aren’t available but we do recommend always keeping safe distance from the vehicle ahead. This is particularly important when travelling at high speed as the time take to slow down increases exponentially with speed. It’s also important to maintain safe distance when overtaking. This is especially true when overtaking large vehicles as it’s almost impossible to have a clear view ahead when travelling behind them.

Mahindra Thar at Global NCAP
The second-gen Mahindra Thar has bagged an encouraging 4-star rating for adult as well as child occupant protection from Global NCAP. Speaking on the SUV’s crash worthiness, Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP said,“Mahindra’s commitment to safer cars is once again displayed for consumers and shows that it is possible to offer good safety performance in the Indian market.
